  1. What’s the difference between a half and full-day trip?

Ocean trips for salmon and rockfish are generally full days, returning about 3:30 p.m.

Half days are mostly spent in the bay for striped bass, halibut, sharks, and sturgeon, returning about 12:15 p.m.

Departure times may vary depending on time of year and tides. Most trips depart at 6:00 a.m. Times may be flexible if chartering the whole boat.

  1. I’ve never fished before; will you help?

We specialize in working with first-timers and less experienced anglers. You receive personal instruction throughout the day and don’t even have to touch the bait. Our goal is to teach anglers how to fish, so by the end of the day you feel confident in your ability to handle the gear.

  1. Do you clean the fish?

Yes, we will fillet or gut your catch. We provide bags for your processed fish. It’s recommended you keep the fillets or whole fish on ice for the ride home.

  1. What’s biting?

Check the “Fishing” page for a general look at seasons.

  1. When is the best time of year to catch fish?

There are always ups and downs, but fishing is generally good year-round with species, locations and techniques changing with the seasons.

  1. Will I get seasick?

It’s very rare to get sick in the bay, but the ocean is a different animal. If going in the ocean, it’s recommend to take a seasick remedy before departing the Wharf.

  1. How cold does it get?

Temps throughout most of the year start in the mid to low 50’s and maybe climb to the mid 60’s. Mornings can be foggy and chilly. Shorts and flip-flops are not recommended.

  1. Can I bring an ice-chest?

Yes, there’s plenty of room for a small to mid-size ice chest. It’s also recommended for transporting your catch home.

  1. Are there any extra costs?

No, your fare pays for everything needed for fishing. Your only cost are parking and whatever food/drink you wish to bring.

  1. Is there parking?

Yes, parking is located about two short blocks from the boat at the Anchorage Square Garage. Weekdays there is an “early-bird” special and we validate on weekends. Cost is under $20 for the day.

  1. Is there are restaurant that will cook our catch?

Yes, Capurro’s restaurant located at 498 Jefferson Street will cook your catch. We offer a 10% discount card.

  1. Can we ship the catch home?

Yes, Alioto-Lazio Fish Co. will ship your catch, but it can be expensive and may not be available on weekends.

Our recommendation is to freeze your catch, and carry it on the plane with a soft cooler and ice packets.
