(February 9, 2021 newsletter) — The City released the reins and we are back in business! Current policy is not mixing groups greater than four anglers. This allows plenty of breathing room and extra fishing area. Charters are still able to bring up to six passengers.

Another policy I’m leaning toward is no smoking while fishing. As of now it will be a request, but that may change moving forward.

As for fishing – The Argo is still motoring up to San Pablo Bay we found an improving bite over the weekend. The water temperature has finally bumped north of 50 degree unlocking some striped bass jaws. The action is nowhere near hot, but nibbles are steady.

The recent precip has also helped the sturgeon realize that San Pablo Bay is still a pleasant place to reside. Overall, the dinosaur bite is slow, but that is a great improvement from nonexistent. This should improve as more freshwater works through the system.

Looking toward the not-so-distant future, halibut are on the horizon. There is a trickle starting to show in the South Bay and we’ve gotten a few while on the anchor in the upper bay.

We’ll likely start attempting combined anchor and halibut trolling trips in within a couple weeks. These trips will depend on varying factors from water clarity and current, to the fish being receptive.

Currently, weekdays are quite open and even weekends are more available than usual. It seems being shutdown and Covid are not good for business.
